Acrobat Ant
About 1/8 inch, all black, pointed gaster held upright. Rarely comes inside. Prefers sweets. Often in trees, roots, and gutters.
Big Headed Ant
Workers about 3/32 inch. Soldiers have large heads. Enter at plumbing cracks and feed on pet food. Prefer protein.
Florida Carpenter Ant
Largest ant in our area, 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Often mistaken for termites when they swarm. Nest in attics near moisture.
Compact Carpenter Ant
About 3/16 inch. Trails walls, wires, and trees. Attic nests can be about a foot across.
Crazy Ant
About 1/8 inch, erratic movement. Trails fences and plants. Can nest in attics or wet areas.
Red Imported Fire Ant
1/8 to 1/4 inch. Burning sting and seasonal mounds. Stings as a predator, not just in defense.
Ghost Ant
About 1/16 inch and very fast. Kitchens and bathrooms. Attracted to sweets. Nests in appliances and plants.
Pharaoh Ant
About 1/16 inch. Raids pantries. Do not spray. Sprays make colonies split and spread.
White Footed Ant
About 1/8 inch. Huge colonies in insulation and moisture areas. Needs repeated baiting.
